ペアレントステートメントを作成提出する(10-11月)

ペアレントステートメント(Parent Statement)は任意の審査書類です。任意といえどもほぼ100%の保護者が提出しますので提出することを薦めます。 ペアレントステートメントには子供に対しての2,3の質問事項がありそれに対して保護者が回答を書くというエッセイ方式です。 こちらも他の提出書類と同じく手書きですのでインターネットからフォームをダウンロードして下書きをしておくと良いでしょう。冗長なものは嫌がられますので、適切かつ簡潔に書くことが必要です。

2008年度のエグゼター校のペアレントステートメントの質問は以下のとおりです。

  1. 子供の学問的強みと弱みを説明せよ
  2. 人格的強みと弱みを説明せよ
  3. 子供はエグゼター校での厳しい学校生活、そして親元を離れての寮生活に適応できるか?
  4. 子供についてエグゼター校に知っておいてほしいことは何か?

基本的にペアレントステートメントでは子供をほめる内容を書きます。ネガティブな内容についてはほとんど触れません。 以下はペアレントステートメントの例ですが、子供の良い点を実例を上げてほめる内容になっています。

1. Describe your child’s academic strength and weaknesses

(Child Name) is an academically gifted child. She has been constantly on the honors roll and dean’s lists.  She was selected on xxxUniversity’s Talent Identification Program and xxx University’s Center for Talented Youth. She also scored over 160 in her IQ test.  The main reasons of her academic success are her diligence, competitiveness and appetite for the knowledge. Combination of her natural gift and her diligent nature makes (Child Name) highly successful in her academics.

Her weaknesses, she sometimes make silly careless mistakes, such as marking wrong section, etc., when she was in rush. She needs to work on in this area.

2. Describe your child’s personal strength and weaknesses:

(Child Name) is generous and caring person and always thinking about helping communities and peers. She is very focused and determine personality. Once she set her mind, she always makes her best efforts to achieve her goal. One example is her xxxx Program she created. When she graduated from Elementary school, she was determined to leave legacy to her school.  As a result she created xxxx Program where students and faculty member can study global leadership by meeting world leaders.  She patiently shared her idea and vision to the world leaders and obtained permission to meet them. They have met 22 world class business/political/academic leaders and made many international friends. There is no doubt that her strong will, determination and caring personality made this program lead to success.

Although she is self-motivator, she prefer to have challenging environment. For her to maximize her output, she needs pressure from parents, teachers and peers.

3. How do you think your child will adapt to the challenges of living away from home?

We are comfortable sending her to Exeter away from home. Since she was ten years old, she studied in foreign private schools in “away from home” environment. She was very social and cheerful character and fit into the community very well.

4. Is there anything else you would like us to know?

(Child Name) is bright and talented young girl who would like to be the best she can be.  She has demonstrated her quality in academics and leadership. (Child Name) is also an amid pianist. Through long hours of practice and auditions, she learned importance of the patience and hard work. And most importantly, believing herself.  As parents, it is our pleasure to spend precious time with such a wonderful child and am very proud her saying she want to continue her study at the best school.
